School politics

Politics in Malayisa never failed to entertain me, be it on the national level (thanks to those jokers in PAS) and now, within my own campus. You buggers, who transferred to Australia are missing out on all these juicy bits.

Now, we all know that the student council in Monash Malaysia is the Monash University Student Association (MUSA, for short). And like just the government here, there is corruption in MUSA but the extent of it varies according to ruling committee of the year. It's a known fact that everyone only whispers in discontent to each other. However, due to this years ruling committee, which as politically active as its President is, is pushing for a change in the student constitution by holding a referendum.

In the past, no one has done much to oppose MUSA, until this sparked the emergence of a mysterious group that has valiantly called themselves, the Coalition for the Abolishment of MUSA (CAMUSA, in short). Their existence was only made known to me when I paid a visit to the toilet, noticing a flyer left in the cubical I was using. Wanted to take it back to slowly read its content but the mystery of what it was wet with deter me from doing so. Basically, they have found some flaws in MUSA's reasons for changing the constitution (read it all here in their blog). I had sort of understood why MUSA is pushing for a change but the counter-arguments presented by the CAMUSA are rather convincing and made me think twice.

Aisey! They declined an invitation to a public debate with MUSA, the only thing I was looking forward to all week. FYI, in regards to the mentioned Daniel Tan in their blog, as the rumour goes, he posted some racist remarks on his blog, which he later removed and denied it's existence. The other contestant for Presidency filed a complained to the Vice-Chancellor and had an IT staff hack into his blog to retrieve the said entry, having him disqualified for Presidency and making her President of MUSA uncontested. Well, that's what some little bird told me. ([Edit]: Well, I was told by some Monash Student that what that little bird told was untrue. Now, I've got to shoot that bird down.)

University life has become a wee bit more interesting now...

(P.S. - I'm sadly not a member of CAMUSA...P.P.S - When it comes to politics, never let anyone decide for you. You decide what's right for yourself.)

Lol, funny stuff you've written there about the last elections. Research a bit more on it, dude. It was a student who voiced out the racist thing during the debate, and it was Daniel himself who filed complaint for 'defamation'.

Not sure what Camusa's intention is, but wanting to abolish the student body is suicidal. If they are unhappy with the council and want change, I'm all for it. But abolishing the student association? That's abolishing all of us, and all our rights, and let the corporate execs take full control of this educational institution. The admin must love camusa to bits, it's their dream come true.

Like I said, it was some rumour a little bird told me. I never said it was of a creditable source.

Sorry, I couldn't be bothered to do any research on the last elections, since it WAS last year and I'm not writing peer-reviewed article about the politics of MUSA. This was supposed to be a light hearted entry just to share my opinions and not to persuade anyone that MUSA is evil (not that it is).

But I'm glad that someone was able to point out that what I heard was untrue. Now, I won't say the wrong things. Excuse me now, I have to find and shoot down that bird.

People need to understand how the whole thing works in this MUSA thing. There are too many laughable accusations being thrown around. Groups like CAMUSA have good core values, but their plan of action is just self-destructive.

Hey, if you continue blogging about student politics, your blog will be the hottest in Monash :P
